Transformed by love…
I like the word ‘transformation’. To move or traverse from one form to another.
As people, we are each ‘formed’ by the genes and ‘forms’ of our family heritage, our community, and our culture. We are also formed by the world we are born into. This world is somewhat broken. The result? All too often we find ourselves unhappy with our form, even to the extent we might feel unloved or unlovable.
Considering contemporary world views, particularly those that push back against traditional values, and medical possibilities, we are able to transform ourselves into what we see as more favourable forms. This might be a shift in self-perception or understanding, or perhaps surgical procedures. These are not necessarily bad things. Who wants to be held so tight in the grasp of heritage and culture they can’t find freedom to be transformed?
I believe we all have a deep longing and need to be loved. Sadly, love in its many forms, is also often corrupted in the brokenness of this world we live in. At Kariong Church we see ourselves “transformed by love.” A love that is beyond the bounds of a broken world. A love that transcends heritage, culture, appearances and self-perceptions. A love that is deeply spiritual, yet at the same time deeply meaningful and powerful in the living of life. A love that changes us from one form to another.
The journey of transformation is exquisite. Moving from a form of feeling unlovely and unlovable into a deep, secure and absolute knowledge of being loved without condition. Perhaps this is the transformation we all need?
