Something you want?
A long time ago I decided to take up smoking. It seemed like a good idea at the time. The trouble came when I pulled my soccer boots on a few years later. Apparently I wasn’t as young or healthy as I thought I should be. Yep. I know. There’s nothing like a reformed smoker to tell you how easy it is to give up!
But I have been asked. I have also asked how I keep fit. Or, how do you have such a great relationship with your wife? I have learned to answer the questions with a question: “Is this something you really want to do?” The emphasis is on the word ‘really’. Whether we like it or not, many of our strongest desires, or hopes and dreams, require extraordinary levels of commitment. “Is this something you really want to do? Because you can! But there will be challenges and decisions to make that will test your resolve.”
Some have also asked about my spirituality.
There’s a song called ‘Highlands’ I like that resonates with me. Speaking to God: How high would I climb mountains if the mountains were where you hide. How far I’d scale the valleys if you graced the other side. Extraordinary levels of commitment! Yet, the song continues with perhaps one of the most profound statements: “You’re just not that hard to find!”
Allow me to answer the question with a question again: “Is this something you really want to do?” He is actually not that hard to find.
