Keeping in step…
It can be fascinating watching people walk together. Perhaps they are friends. Perhaps they are lovers. Perhaps they are family. There they are walking together through the park, along the beach, or on a pathway. Immersed in conversation and enjoying relationship as they ‘journey’ together. Why can it be so fascinating? Watch as they walk and notice the rhythm of their steps. It matters little their height, shape or size. Often sooner than later, they begin walking in time with each other. Not unlike people marching.
People trained to march are trained to be acutely aware of what others are doing around them. They notice each other. I suspect it similar with couples walking together. The beauty and wonder of it is the other person is important and valuable enough to take notice. To care. To respond and interact with. They are of one spirit.
This also occurs living in community. The most delightful of families and communities people journey together instinctively sensitive to those around them and live ‘in time’. The spirit of oneness and communal love becomes the ‘beat’ to which they live. This is indeed spiritual. Perhaps that is why keeping in step with our creator Spirit is the key to living in loving, vital, empowering and equipping families and communities?
