Shortcuts…

Do you have a name for your GPS Navigation system in your car?  I guess we’re not that original, but ours is named Karen.  We love Karen.  She is so helpful and has made life so much easier on many occasions.  Yet, sometimes Karen finds a ‘shortcut’ that doesn’t exactly live up to expectations!  Perhaps the problem is I love shortcuts too much.  I’ll even go out of my way to find them.  I’ll use them whenever I can.  Did you know there are even bacon shortcuts?  I love them too!  And I’ll go out of my way to find them!

Shortcuts are handy, but always navigating the world using them means we risk missing spectacular scenery and exquisite experiences found by taking the road less travelled.  Often the unexpected or unexplored destinations are the most peaceful and memorable.

My other GPS system is named Jesus.  He’s written his ‘directions’ down.  When the world is going crazy he guides us to “green pastures and gentle streams, and prepares excellent things for us.”  When the worries of the world are overwhelming, he offers this route: “Seek first the place where he is (his kingdom) and those worries will sort themselves out.”

I love Karen.  I love Jesus more.  His roads are always peaceful and always safe, and the destinations are amazing.
