A leaf fell to the ground…
As I walked along the trail in the National Park a leaf fluttered to the path before me. This leaf once lived and thrived, but as its story unfolded its time had come to fall to the ground. It would have been easy to walk by, lost in my thoughts of the important stuff of life. But the insignificance of this leaf startled me. One leaf amongst an uncountable number of leaves. The trees are filled with them. And the ground covered. What significance might one leaf have in the story of the bigger picture of the forest?
Later in the day I walk in the hustle and bustle of a busy shopping centre. I am in the centre of my world, with a countless number of ‘extras’ in the movie of my life milling about going this way and that. Each of them nameless figures in my story. Then I realise I am an ‘extra’ in their stories. Of what significance am I?
Of what significance are each of us in the epic story of the history of this world?
That’s why I think God is awesome. Like someone flicked on a light in the midst of a bad dream I didn’t know I was in, I am startled again. In God’s story every story is important. Mine. Yours. Every single one. Every story is immeasurably valuable. God is fascinated with each one. Every single one. And he longs to be involved.
